Pedro Martinez feels ‘great’ as Mets win

New York.– Pedro Martinez limited the Nationals to two runs on five hits while striking out four and walking none in five innings as the Mets ran their winning streak to six games with an 8-2 victory Friday.

Martinez, who regularly hit 87-88 mph with his fastball, felt so good after his 71-pitch outing that he suggested he could have pitched two or three more innings. He’ll have one more spring tune-up before facing the Marlins in Game 2 of the season on April 1 in Miami.

“I can’t wait to actually start with the team,” said Martinez, who last spring was rehabbing from rotator-cuff surgery, mostly on the minor-league side of the complex.

“Last year you didn’t see me at all over here. This year, I’ve been all around and, thanks to God, healthy. I’ve been able to do everything I’m asked to do. It’s totally different. I can’t wait for the season to start and to be there with the team the whole time. I’m really excited about it. You know, I want spring training to be over, just to know that I made it through and I’m going with the team and not have anything to worry about.”
