Dominican capital’s subway set for 2nd test this week, Listin says

SANTO DOMIGO. – This week the Transport Reform Office (Opret) will stage another test of the Santo Domingo Metro’s first line, though it will be after the May 16 elections when the controversial project begins passenger operations, as several collateral works which guarantee its adequate operation have yet to be concluded, reported newspaper Listin Diario.

An engineer who works in the subway system, which spans from Villa Mella to the north to La Feria to the south, didn’t specify the test date, but affirmed that its officials, employees and their relatives were invited to ride. “The Dominican and foreign personnel who toils in the work is expediting it, there is a great movement by all the people who are in charge of the work, but there are many details which need to be taken care here which are necessary before the Metro operates as a commercial route.”

The professional, who asked Listin not to publish his name, said Opret’s top priority is for the Metro to work perfectly for the public. “It will be the commercial route after May 16, because many details are lacking.”
