			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>A powerful magnitude 7.0 quake struck Tuesday off the coast of Haiti, and it was felt in a wide part of the Dominican Republic, the U.S. Geological Survey said, but there was no immediate report of damage or casualties locally.</p>
<p>In Santo Domingo however local media reports that several ambulances and fire trucks are converging on Acropolis Center, one of Santo Domingo&#8217;s tallest buildings, but no details are yet available.<span id="more-102"></span></p>
<p>The quake, which was very shallow at a depth of only 10 km, struck 16 km west of Port-au-Prince, Haiti&#8217;s capital, the USGS said.</p>
<p>A report out of the northern town Nagua affirms that it&#8217;s the longest quake felt in recent history.</p>
<p>A major earthquake, of magnitude 7.0 or higher, is capable of causing widespread and heavy damage.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Washington.– The most US permanent visas given in 2009 went to immigrants from <strong><a href="http://www.gotothedominicanrepublic.com" target="_blank">the Dominican Republic</a></strong>, who collected close to half of the total, according to the latest U.S. State Department data that analyzed how more Caribbean nationals were able to adjust their status to legal residents this year, compared to last year.</p>
<p>The data includes all immigrants sponsored by family and employers. For 2009, the total was 44,417, according to State Department statistics compared to over just 32,000 in 2008.<span id="more-101"></span></p>
<p>The figure for Dominicans who became green card holders or permanent residents was 24,496. Haiti was second with 7,199 while Jamaicans secured 5,493 visas. Guyana ranked fourth, with over 3,000.</p>

<p>Camilo added that the modern freight area has wireless telephones and a category 7 Hardwire Network, technology he said will allow faster Customs proceedings.</p>

<p>SANTO DOMINGO.- Five months and 12 days after newspaper El Nacional reported the presence  of crocodiles in the Ozama river, a group of villagers yesterday shot twice and captured one in a pool next to the Higüero river, in Villa Mella, and the “Crocodile hunters” immediately demanded a 10,000 pesos reward.<span id="more-48"></span></p>
<p>This morning Zoo biologists, headed by Gerald Garcia-Dubuc, examined the crocodile, and although the bullet wounds in various parts of the animal were confirmed, he said the projectiles didn’t damage vital organs.</p>
<p>Garcia-Dubuc said the 7-foot, male crocodile in approximately seven years old, is in good health, and is able to mate.</p>
<p>that the state  which indicates that it was fed well. It said that when finishes the process  recovery  the animal it is integrated the exhibition group that there is in the National Zoological Park.</p>
<p>Nacional first reported the crocodiles in Santo Domingo’s rivers on November 2 last year, when the Tropical Storm Noel caused the Ozama and Isabela rivers to overflow their banks.</p>
<p>Two of the animals which panicked those who live along the Isabela and Ozama rivers were seen last week in the village Cajuilito, and when a rumor spread of a reward for their capture, youngsters formed groups called &#8220;Crocodile-hunters&#8221;.</p>
<p>The animal captured yesterday is an American crocodile (Crocodylus acutus) and will join the seven adults and six young ones in the Zoo.</p>
