Dominican Republic hosts regional Rowing Championship

Santo Domingo.– Competitors from Venezuela, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Colombia, Netherlands Antilles, Guatemala, US Virgin Islands and the Dominican Republic will attend the Central American and Caribbean Rowing Championship.

According to Antonio Acosta, president of the organizing committee, the event started today, 10 May at the Rincon Dam facilities in Monsignor Nouel.

US$465M spent on Samaná province, but more is needed

Samaná.- Around 465 million dollars has been spent to develop Samaná province in his last administrations, said president Leonel Fernandez during the popular dialogue held here yesterday.

He said the funds were spent to build the Santo Domingo – Samaná highway, as part of the project North Atlantic Boulevard, and in the construction of the aqueduct,  with the completion of its second stage is still pending.

The chief executive said the investments represent almost half of what it cost to build the Santo Domingo Metro, and chided that, “in Samaná we have a metro of development.” Read the rest of this entry »

Dominican capital to get 1st natural gas station for cars in days

Dominican Felix Sanchez trains to defend Olympic title

Santo Domingo.– As the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games loom ever closer, Dominican 400m hurdler Felix Sanchez trains harder to be ready to defend his gold medal.

Codetel in the countryside

The Dominican Telephone Company (CODETEL) has expanded its “Rural Broadband Connections” program by linking three more communities to the Internet. The program is designed to bring the Internet to the country’s remotest communities and serve a million and a half people who do not have access to this type of communication. A total of 20 communities have been connected so far, and the goal is to reach a total of 503 communities. The three latest communities were Las Matas de Santa Cruz in Montecristi province, San Victor in Espaillat province and Monte Plata, the capital of the province with the same name.
